Tyrosine is one of the 20 amino acids commonly found in animal proteins. It is the precursor of adrenal hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and melanin (the skin and hair pigment). After the thyroid absorbs iodine, it is combined with tyrosine to make thyroid hormones. In fact, the blood test for thyroxine, "T4" is actually tyrosine plus 4 molecules of iodine; similarly, "T3" is tyrosine plus three molecules of iodine. Therefore adding tyrosine, and increasing intake of iodine in foods or as a supplement, will be a good support for your thyroid.
