Title: Wisteria and Pond
Size: 18 inches wide by 48 1/2 inches high including tabs. Ready to hang--natural bamboo rod included.
Description: Wisteria in shades of purple and emerald green on pale yellow background. Gray fish and brown rocks. Mottled soft green border.
History: Wisteria blooms during May and June and their beautiful color has always brought joy to the Japanese. During the Heian Era (794 -1192) the flower became the symbol of the ruling Fujiwara clan. It was also a time when flower viewing parties were held beneath their blossoms, much the same as those enjoyed to view cherry blossoms earlier in the spring. In old Japan, fuji was a favored and planted in the inner palace where the emperor's consorts and ladies-in-waiting lived. In the West one often sees wisteria trained against a wall, but in Japan wisteria grows wild and can be seen clambering through trees in the mountains.
Our scroll size wall Hangings (long and narrow) are made from printed 100% cotton fabric panels, tenugui (printed cotton 'towels') or a noren (doorway curtain). They are machine quilted, hand-guided, using two layers of low loft polyester batting to provide added depth and dimension. Sizes listed under each item are approximate. For the width, the panel size itself is measured not the rod (which extends an inch or so past the panel on each side)--and the length is measured from the top of the tabs to the bottom of the panel.
