Title: Narcissus Flowers (suisen) Daffodils
Size: 16 1/2 inches wide by 48 1/2 inches long including tabs. Ready to hang--natural bamboo rod included.
Description: White narcissus flowers with yellow centers and light green foliage on a medium green background. First accent border in chartreuse--the main border in a soft emerald swirled pattern.
History: Narcissus, daffodils, and jonquils are all known as suisen in Japanese. They bloom between December and March and since they often are in full bloom in January they are considered a symbol of the new year and a new beginning. The Japanese kanji "sui" means water and "sen" is the same character as in the word "tensen" or "heavenly mountain person" or god, which also make suisen auspicious flowers. As this idea is rather a new one suisen rarely appear in older designs, but lucky for us the Japanese love of nature in modern times embraces all forms of beauty.
Our scroll size wall Hangings (long and narrow) are made from printed 100% cotton fabric panels, tenugui (printed cotton 'towels') or a noren (doorway curtain). They are machine quilted, hand-guided, using two layers of low loft polyester batting to provide added depth and dimension. Sizes listed under each item are approximate. For the width, the panel size itself is measured not the rod (which extends an inch or so past the panel on each side)--and the length is measured from the top of the tabs to the bottom of the panel.
