History: Koi: As the carp swims against the stream, so it is the Japanese youth are expected to fight against all the fierce currents of adversity. The koi (carp) swimming up a waterfall theme dates back to ancient China, where a well-known legend told how any koi that succeeded in climbing the legendary falls (at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River), would be transformed into a dragon. Thus, the koi became a symbol of worldly aspiration and advancement of tenacity of purpose and indomitable courage.
