History: Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) was a prolific woodblock artist perhaps best known for his collection entitled "53 Stations of the Tokaido." Among the prints of this collection it is said that this is the only one in which sound can be heard, the falling rain is so real you can hear it, and for that reason it is considered to be one of his best pieces. Shouno, now the city of Suzuka in northern Mie prefecture, was a quiet place between two mountains and, except for a few locally made goods, there wasn't much else of interest there. It's a lonely place to be caught in a storm, but Hiroshige makes it a fascinating study of man against nature.
Our horizontal size wall hangings (wide) are usually made from tenugui that are printed horizontally so the panel is wider than it is long. They are machine quilted, hand-guided, using two layers of low loft polyester batting to provide added depth and dimension.
