914 - Weedline Warriors
James Harris, Artist. West Palm Beach, Florida
Giclee Print on Canvas. Size is 23 x 17
A group of dolphin fish swim along a sargasso weed line in the Gulf Stream. Dolphin or Mahi-mahi have a lifespan of 4 to 5 years. They are distinguished by dazzling colors: golden on the sides, bright blues and greens on the sides and back. Mahi-mahi are among the fastest-growing fish, weighing 4-5 lbs in their first year. They are fast swimmers with a top swimming speed of 50 knots. Dolphin are among the most sought-after offshore fish during summer, and they can be found throughout the Florida Keys and the Caribbean. Fishing charters locate dolphin along the edge of the Gulf Stream in about 120 feet of water by looking for floating debris and frigate birds. Dolphin tend to hang out around debris such as floating boards, palm trees and fronds, or sargasso weed lines.
