DESCRIPTION: Heartwood is rich dark brown to purplish-black & is usually straight grained. Wavy or curly grain is sometimes present. Texture is coarse. Weight averages about 40lbs per cu. ft. Note: long, wide boards are hard to find clear. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: North America BOTANICAL NAME: Juglans Nigra WORKING PROPERTIES: Can be worked with hand or power tools without difficulty. Takes nails & screws well. Glues satisfactorily. Finishes to a high polish. USES: The standard for gunstocks in the U.S. Extensively used in high-quality furniture, cabinetmaking, boatbuilding, musical instruments, clock cases, turning & carving. Sliced or cut for paneling, veneers. SIZES: The stock is surfaced on two sides to 1 3/4" thickness by 5" & wider by 36"-96" in lengths. NOTE: Widths & lengths may vary up to 1/16" of an inch.
