DESCRIPTION: Heartwood is vivid blood red/orange, toning down to a dark purple-brown with red streaks upon exposure. Grain is straight to interlocked. Texture is similar to African mahogany, being slightly open grained. Weight varies from about 40lbs to 50lbs per cu. ft. COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Africa BOTANICAL NAME: Pterocarpus Soyauxii WORKING PROPERTIES: Machines very easily. Nails, screws & glues very well. Polishes easily to a excellent finish. USES: Due to its high strength, durability & outstanding stability, this wood is ideal for high-class joinery, furniture & cabinetmaking. Also for fancy turning, carving, tool & knife handles, paddles & oars, and decorative veneers. SIZES: Surfaced on two sides to 1 7/8" thickness by 6" & wider by 36"-96" in lengths.
