I think over the past two years, the increasing demand for great customer service has been more and more on demand, but what we have seen from a business stand point on the eCommerce front regarding customer service, is the success Zappos has had as a company that puts customer service in front of everything else and making it the most important part of the companies culture.
When was the last time you went in a store/website and either got bad or mediocre customer service before or after the purchase? Did you ever feel like going back? Did you ever recommend that place to a friend or family member? Top executives of top eCommerce retailers are stressing more than ever the importance of providing a great customer service experience by providing great customer service.
A sale can very well start and end with great customer service regardless of the price (of course if within reason of the product.) A recent study from RightNow technologies looks at the impact of providing great customer service to consumers.

As we are in the holiday season mix, the eCommerce section plays a huge part of holiday shopping, maybe more than ever as internet shopping increases yearly. As that happens, competition online gets more fierce and more promotions and offers must take place for ecommerce websites to compete against each other.
All you hear about lately is how large online retailers are offering free shipping for the holiday season. InternetRetailer.com reports that last year, 68 of the largest 100 internet retailers offered free shipping, so that number is down, nevertheless, it is more than half of the largest retailers that are offering free shipping. Many small business ecommerce websites depend on shipping fees to either cover the cost of the actual shipping or profit anywhere from $1-$15 on shipping depend on the shipping method.

UP YOUR INVENTORY:Â The last thing you want to happen is for your best sellers and other popular products on your website to go on backorder. It is important to have inventory on hand to meet demand of your customers and not make them wait too long for their product. A lack of inventory can hurt your sales and of course your reputation with customers.
INCREASE YOUR ADVERTISING BUDGET: If you look at the search engines, you may already see a change and new advertisers on the paid search side of things. During these holiday months, current advertisers and new advertisers pop in the market and try to get as much search share as possible of the most relevant and best keywords to their business. Try to up your advertising budget as much as possible to take as much search share as possible from your competitors.

It’s no secret that social media has been a goldmine for SEOs. Primarily, social media has been an incredible organic link building tool (maybe not so organic for some,) but has provided an incredible outlet to promote and distribute content.
Social media has proven to be of importance to an overall search engine optimization strategy which includes everything from social interaction on Facebook and Twitter to bookmarking on websites such as Digg and Delicious. This also includes the world of video which doesn’t get mentioned much when talking about social media as links from content is still king.
The study, from SEOMOZ.org says, “Nearly 71% of respondents said they use social media as part of their SEO strategy. Social media marketing can be an excellent driver of content visibility, by helping to keep content fresh and abundant, and also by increasing the number of inbound links a site receives.”
