eCommerce Holiday Marketing: 5 Holiday Online Marketing Tips for eCommerce
eCommerce holiday marketing is one if not the most important time of the year to ramp up your online marketing efforts and give your website a big push to boost sales and brand exposure. We list 5 marketing strategies for the holiday season.
As the holidays near by, it’s never too early to start planning your marketing strategy for the holidays when it comes to ecommerce. Many online retailers wait a bit too long to start really pushing and promoting holiday’s specials. There are many things you can do to promote and push your brand and products during the holiday season which is what most internet retailers wait for all year.
There are online retailers that wait all year just for the months of November and December to make up for lost sales during the year but of course this all comes with a nice marketing push and trying to get as much exposure and best possible deals. Do you have to change your business model during the holidays or change things drastically on your website for holiday success? No. But it is important that you do try to give your online marketing efforts a push a bit prior to the holidays to start ramping up exposure and sales.
One of the best ways to ensure holiday ecommerce success and boosting sales is to put most of your online marketing resources into pushing your best sellers. During the course of the year, you know what products sell best on your website and during the holidays you should double the sales of these best selling products.
WEB DESIGN: Your design should of course change with the theme of certain holidays as that can very well have an impact on shoppers. Have you been to a mall in November? All the stores start designing their interiors with Christmas trees, etc. You web store should be no different as you want browsers to feel the same experience as entering a physical store. Having a holiday-theme design shows your brand is up-to-date on holiday commerce and signs of possible sales and specials. Category pages should have banners that promote holiday specials and coupons right at eye sight of shoppers can definitely increase sales instantly.
PPC MARKETING: If you don’t engage in Pay-Per-Click during the year to promote your ecommerce store, there is no doubt you should do some PPC marketing during the holidays to boost sales as searches in the engines do increase for holiday shopping. Your PPC ads should have holiday wording starting in November to promote holidays such as Thanksgiving sales, Black Friday and into Christmas and Chanukah. Your PPC ads should have sales ad copy including percentages off certain products or brands. Make sure to test different variations of holiday ppc ads to see which one has the best click through rate to stick with that ad throughout the rest of the holiday season.
DISPLAY MARKETING: This is another online marketing strategy that if you don’t use during the course of the year, I highly recommend you add some budget towards display marketing. Your display marketing should be pushing your best selling brands and best selling products. Displaying advertising online can be both very expensive and pretty affordable depending on what platform you use and of course what niche you’re in. Google Adwords allows advertisers a very easy option to start display campaigns. If you have the budget to do a serious big display advertising push online, you can use platforms (companies) such as Advertising.com or ValueClick.com which have very large properties and exposure throughout the web.
EMAIL MARKETING: The emails you collect throughout the year have never been as important as they are throughout the holiday season. These emails have so much value as a customer that may not be looking to buy for themselves again, may just be in the market for a gift and this is your chance to capitalize on that. Your email marketing push should keep a holiday theme throughout the months of Nov and Dec. You can even get an early start in mid-late October for holiday marketing on emails. Make sure to include coupon codes in emails to give your subscribers an incentive. Referral incentives are a great idea to push to current customers.
RETARGETNG MARKETING: So if you want to boost sales, who better to target than the customer that already visited your website but never bought anything? Re-targeting marketing has been an incredible technology which is still evolving to get those customers back to your website by advertising your banners to properties they visit. The way it works is all IP based as the platform you use for this tactic will drop a cookie on the visitors browsers which will then serve them your ads from websites they visit which use that platform to advertise. Google Adwords is a great example of a retargeting platform.
