eCommerce Spending Down for First Time Ever in 2009
2009 is the first time we have ever seen eCommerce spending on a decline, IN HISTORY. What does this mean? It tells us the obvious as we have all seen regarding the state of our economy and how it has impacted everyone, from the very bottom of the financial ladder to the very top. People have decided to put a stop on spending due to fears of job loss, etc.
To quote from the article on MediaPost regarding this subject, Gavin O’Malley writes:
“Thanks to the ongoing recession, 2009 will go down as the first negative growth year in the history of U.S. e-commerce. That’s according to comScore’s 2009 U.S. Digital Year in Review, which saw etail spending decrease 2% year-over-year to $209.6 billion.
