A beautiful violet blue gemstone, named from teh Greek word ios, meaning violet. Iolite is sometimes known as water sapphire, and the navigators stone. Iolite deonstrates pleochroism: three different shades within the same stone depending on which direction it is facing. Iolite was used by the vikings as a navigation tool to locate the sun on hazy days. Iolite is found in many places around the world, including Canadas Northwest Territories!
How to Care for Iolite: Avoid using ultrasonic cleaners and steamers on iolite, chemicals, heat and scratches. The best way to clean your piece is with some soap and warm water.
