What is amethyst?
Amethyst is the violet form of quartz. Its colour ranges from hues of lilac to deep purple. It is found in many places around the world, including North-western Ontario, Canada. Amethyst is the birthstone for February and for the zodiac Pisces. It has been favoured by royalty since the time of the great pharaohs of Egypt and the Emperors of Rome and during the middle ages was only allowed to be worn by nobles. Amethyst is rumoured to inspire intellect and has peaceful and calming properties.
